Mashup Monday

So this isn't really a mashup, its more of a remix but Remix Monday doesn't sound as good as Mashup Monday so bare with me. Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" has topped the charts for a while and Big Gigantic is just sick so its a great combination.

Lately I have been on a Jay Z and Biggie Smalls kick. Empire State of Mind has been like my go to song for the longest time. So I was pumped when I heard this remix. Then I saw it was by Pretty Lights and I was no surprised at the awesomeness of this track at all.

I really love this look, the jean skirt is so cute. J.Crew does it again.

Maritime Dress $78 |
I don't think this dress would be the most flattering thing for me to wear, but its still cute for anybody who can pull if off.

Classes

First day back at class. Gosh, I feel so behind like I have so much to do when in reality after looking at my planner I must be imagining things. I missed one test that I have to retake, not to worried about it but other than that nothing. I don't have any test next week that I have to start studying for. This might sound corny but I feel really guilty for missing class. See at the beginning of the semester I was researching Clemson facts for a project in my professional selling class when I ran across the tuition. So then that got me thinking and I calculated how many times my classes will meet and divided that by how much tuition is for the semester to get what my parents pay each time I go to class. Every time one of my classes meets my parents pay $175 for me to sit in that class.
What is sickening is how much in state students pay in comparison... a merely $55 per a class. I am gonna stand on a soapbox for one second, but I went to a high school in one of the top, if not the top public school districts in the United States. Kids from South Carolina have graduated from one worst public education systems in the United States yet they get the reduced rate.... but that is a whole different blog post. Now knowing that my parents pay that much for me to sit in class, I absolutely feel sick to my stomach with guilt every time I think about missing a class. Just some food for thought.

TDG

I have the best mom ever, and I know everybody thinks their mom is the best but trust me mines better. Last week was rough, but TDG totally made it suck less. Getting a package totally makes my day. So imagine my surprise when I open a package this past week and I find this...
I had a previous post way back when about my love for Kiel James Patrick. I have a bracelet from the Cape & Brigton line which I love, but this belt...just wow. It's hand made and just gorgeous. Gosh I sound like my Grandfather but you just don't see craftsmanship like this anymore. But it gets better, TDG outdid herself with this.
I saw this bag during Christmas and fell in love with it. The color, the little shoulder strap I mean I just loved this bag. TDG said it was too big and it is big, but its just so pretty. My everyday purse is/was my navy longchamp which is part of the uniform of sorority girls all over the south. I have never had a leather bag this nice before. Week totally turned around.

ER Trip

Friday it was my friend Jenny's birthday. So naturally she had a party. Unfortunately when I arrived Jenny felt the need to pick me up she was so excited. She picked me up alright but then she slipped and witness said it looked something like this....
What I can imagine it looking like.
A trip to the ER later I was diagnosed with a concussion, a sprained back and a sprained neck. I have been taking enough pain medication to knock out a moderately sized elephant and sleeping more than a bear in hibernation. For the record I am not a whimp. Growing up I was an athlete. I have been knocked out, dehydrated, broken bones you name it I am one tough cookie. But this back injury, has had me whining like a baby.

A Look I Love

I have tons of long sleeve button up style shirts. They are hands down my favorite pieces ever. Hot? No problem, roll up the sleeves. Chilly? No big deal roll down the sleeves. Versatile and they will never go out of style you can't ask for more. Throw on some jeans, add a necklace and that is my go to outfit. Since everybody is getting their spring lines out I am seeing a lot of this.
The tucked in boyfriend shirt with shorts. I love this look, its casual and classic. However I feel self conscious that it looks a little too boyish. So flats instead of Sperrys and add a necklace I think that takes care of that. You can always go with a skirt instead of shorts like J.crew has done...

Shorts

So here is a question for you. What comes after a great winter sale? Stuck? A bunch of really cute summer clothes. More specifically shorts. Its hard right now to think about wearing shorts. I think the high today is around 50 and I know up in Boston y'all are still getting slammed with snow. However I am super excited because Vineyard Vines has come out with new colors for their shorts. Awhile back I dedicated a whole post to my love of VV's classic twill shorts (amazing fit and perfect inseam..ring any bells?). Anyways check out the new colors.
I love the pink. The yellow has me worried with my pale skin I might have to try them on in the store before I make a decision on those. Though I love the color of the cottage blue I am not sure what I would wear those with. It seems like every year I have to get a new pair of white shorts. Last year somehow I tore off a belt loop and the year before that I managed to get a giant whole right in the front. So it looks like I'll end up getting the white as well.

What A Weekend

TheWomantoBlame
Wow. What a weekend! It was a weekend where you need another weekend to recover from the past weekend. Follow that? Saturday we had an alumnae event in Greenville. Then on Sunday morning I woke up a the crack of dawn to drive down to Atlanta and catch a flight to Memphis. What would cause a college student to wake up at 5am on a Sunday do you ask? Well this weekend I got to surprise HTS at her sorority initiation. I don't think I have mentioned this but HTS pledged the same sorority I am a member down at Ole Miss. I had emailed her chapter President and Pledge Mom back in December and had the whole thing planed. She didn't know I was at Ole Miss until during her actual initiation ceremony.
Words cannot describe her face when she saw me, I actually started to tear up (which is a big deal because I am totally not a crier). So many thoughts were running through my head during the ceremony. I had a mini flash back to my own initiation. I couldn't believe how fast the time had past. It seriously felt like yesterday I was in HTS shoes. The waves of nervousness, excitement and anticipation all came flooding back. Then I started thinking about all the amazing people and friendships I had made through my membership in a sorority and how she is just beginning the process. I will admit I was just a tad jealous of her. HTS's is just starting her college life and I in turn am starting to close that chapter. Being there, experiencing first hand my little sisters start into an amazing chapter in her life meant the world to me and it certainly put things into perspective. Joining a sorority is so much more than cute t-shirts, fraternity boys and parties. It's having a group of friends no matter where you go, a support system through out college and beyond.
