Shoes?

I love shoes, and here is a little sample of some of the shoes I couldn't live without. I get a lot of flak from my roommates about my dirty bucks but I don't care, they are a classic. The white low top Chuck Taylors aren't very popular down south but with some dark denim( or chinos) paired with an oxford you have a timeless trad classic.

Baby We Were Born To Run

So recently I was surfing Amazon when I came across this book.

Now I have never been a runner. Athletic yes but I just never liked to run. I want to love running I really do. There is not an athlete I admire more than a long distance runner. Little Sister finished a half marathon last fall and I admire her for that. After reading the reviews on Amazon I really wanna pick up this book. Who knows maybe it will get me over my own mental block I have on running.

If You Build It They Will Come

So one of the traditions here at school is the "First Friday" parade. The Sunday before the first home football game all the sororities start building a float and then come Friday there is a huge parade. So yesterday afternoon I just started to doze off for a quick nap when I got a phone call from my friend Julie, who also happens to be out First Friday chair.

Julie "Hey Kelly, you know how to use a hammer?"
Me (I actually have no idea what I said, I was still in the hazy sleep mode)
Julie "Great, thanks"

20 minutes later I found myself on campus and face to face with a piles of wood, nails and power tools. In 4 hours we finished all this

(I apologize for the poor quality of the photo it was taken on my cellphone.)

The best part of the day is unlike some other organizations it was just us girls. We didn't have boys out there doing all the dirty work and I honestly didn't mind. What a sense of accomplishment after we were finished for the day. Its hard to tell but that is a tall float, like 12 feet tall. So how exactly did get that high up? No we didn't use a ladder, that would be too easy. Instead I drove up my car real close and then would hop up on the roof of my car and do work. How I did not fall off and break my neck is beyond me.

So we decided to work right up to chapter. We walk in the door and everybody turns and looks at us and asks if we planned to dress alike. It wasn't until they pointed it out but we did look like twins, both in the Nike running shorts, white men's v neck shirts and pink backwards hats (though mine was a pretty awesome neon  hat) we were even wearing the same sunglasses (Ray Ban Aviators). That got me thinking minus the hat that is pretty much the look of most of the sorority girls on campus. Talk about living up to the stereotype, though I am not sure most girls could use power tools like we did that day.

Salute Your Shorts

I have this thing about shorts. I am very particular.  I hate short shorts and I don't think Bermuda are very flattering on me.  Finally I have found a pair of shorts that I feel comfortable in.  I love Vineyard Vines and I have tried on their shorts in the past but for some reason this summer (I don't know if they changed them or what) but I fell in love with them.
             5 inch inseam = perfection

I stopped in the Boston store this summer and picked up the light blue and Redish pairs.  I wish that I bought a couple more. It's pretty safe to say that living in South Carolina we have at least 3 more weeks of "short wearing" weather.  Unfortunately after looking at their website now they only have stone and white. Boring I like the crazy colors, better start searching ebay.

Top Dollar Ballin'

Phew. So third round of recruitment is over. I feel like 100 pounds have just been lifted off my shoulders. Third round is skit round here and this year I wrote a new skit for recruitment, so needless to say I was a little stressed out yesterday. 99% of the stress originated from the set. We had a 9 foot tall 11 foot long canvas backdrop we needs to hang so I constructed this crazy PVC/ metal shelve contraption to hold this pretty heavy piece of canvas.

Anyways this was my favorite part of the skit. We did a spoof on MTV's "Cribs" show and showed off our chapter's facility. I recorded it on a little flip video camera I rented from the library (An actual video camera is on my wish list) so thats  why the quality is not all that great. The tour guide is actually one of my roommates, and as I had to answer this question during third round, Yes she really is like this in real life...

Somethings Are Worth The Rush

After an amazing summer in the equally amazing city of Boston, I am finally back the Palmetto state. Classes don't start until Aug 17th but I had to arrive a week earlier for RUSH RETREAT I mean... Pre Recruitment Workshop. I can't wait to see everybody, and get down to business. Two full days of nothing but recruitment! Recruitment and I have a love hate relationship, I love the excitement, talking to all the women coming threw but I can do without the stress of recruitment combined with the stress of classes. Seriously the first week would be so less stressful if we could have recruitment before classes started. No sense of worrying about something you have no control over, yay Recruitment!
